CBL Retro – 10/26/21 Previews and Predictions

Well Retro fans and members. The current CBL Retro season is winding down and now its playoff positioning time. Therefore, expect each game to matter. Which means the intensity will be high. Check out today’s previews:

Game 1, 8:00 ,pm – Replacements vs. Tower. PREVIEW: This is a battle of two opposing styles. Tower has a team full of guys with a lot of energy and score with a team approach of everyone getting buckets. Replacements have been a two headed monster all season with Sajid and Ali Khalid leading the way. Of course Towers weakness is in big men so that’s where we give the Replacements the big advantage. We think they win a good game. PREDICTION: Replacements 48 Tower 40

Game 2, 9:00 ,pm – Clutch vs. Panthers. PREVIEW: A tale of two teams with attendance issues. This game could go twelve different ways depending on which players show up. At full strength Clutch are a well oiled machine who know how to play together and have championship experience. Panthers on the other hand go with sheer star power led by former mvps Muzz and Hyder [we didn’t forget Adnan]. This should be a good battle, hoping for everyone to show up. PREDICTION: Panthers 42 clutch 38

Game 3, 10:00 ,pm – Bricklayers vs. Tigers PREVIEW: Game of the night! Defending champs vs the first place Tigers. The Bricklayers are coming off a tough loss against the Replacements and Naveed and Junaid will be looking for revenge. On the other side Kaptain Kamil and the best big man in the league, Dev are in a fight for the 1 spot. It’s a battle of the two older teams in the league, but there’s on guarantee. No ones scoring more than 15 on Farooq. In the end the Bricklayers don’t lose two games in a row and they will pull this one out as well in a nail biter. PREDICTION: Bricklayers 54 Tigers 52

CBL30 10/25/21 Games Previews and Predictions

Well the power rankings dropped and some folks took offense and others accepted the facts. But like any day in CBL what’s basketball without some drama. Let’s dive into this week’s match-ups and predictions.

8pm-CBB (2-0) vs Panthers (3-0): PREVIEW: Sitting at the top of the CBL standings with a perfect record, the Panthers team has a big challenge on the horizon this week as they face their undefeated counterpart CBB. So far this season, the Panthers have controlled play, winning three consecutive games. However, the Baller Boys aren’t far behind as they are currently rank second in the standings. Some would say the Panthers are finally meeting soild competition and their toughest test yet. The Baller Boys are coming off two stellar wins against top 5 teams without superstar point guard Taha catching fire yet, scary thought huh? The best thing going for this team is that they are not dependent on one player rather they are like The Expendables on any given night you can get clipped by any one of them. One thing we know for sure though captain Sy is ready to take the top spot and best record. We expect these teams to come ready and battle for what they believe is their rightful spot. Captain Muzz has built a well rounded team for this season and won’t back down. His men give him 110% every night. This will be a battle of the guards that’s for sure. We see a high scoring but little defensive affair.  PREDICTION 76-64 CBB

9pm-Imaan (2-1) vs Uncle Drew (2-1): PREVIEW: Look what we have here best friend versus best friend, teammate verse teammate: Michael Liander vs Alonzo Robinson. Quickpoint these two guys have torched CBL together winning multiple chips & taking down stacked teams. But on this night they will be going up against one another. Imaan is coming off of a tough loss last week in which we saw Mike go for 25pts-25reb. Where as his counterpart Zo went for 25pts-6reb in a win. Unfortunately health is not on Imaans side with their big man forward Tariq out and a gtd today. We also hear chatter that others may be m.i.a. As for Uncle Drew we expect a hungry and ready team that want to climb up the standings to the top where they believe they should be. If they play anything like they did last week expect them to give Imaan a rude awakening. We saw Saleh Ahmed go off in the second half to carry his team to a hard fought win over Autobots. The question is will Zo continue his second half sluggish ways and be helped by his guys or will they faulter? For Mike and company who is going to step up? MoeH has been stellar on defense but any offense? Can Jose make open layups? Where has Safraz of week one gone? With so many questions and little answers we see Saleh lighting up Imaan as Zo gets the full court Harden treatment. PREDICTION 77-67 Uncle Drew

10pm-Afghan Ballers (2-1) vs Autobots (0-3): PREVIEW: One team is going to right the ship and it can either make or break their season. The Afghans come off a bye and can finally get back to winning If the yelling and finger pointing stops. Anyone find the beebs yet? Both him and his talent have been m.i.a and that’s hurting the ballers. The after hours chatter says this team more concerned about who should be a one rather who should be a leader. Haroun & Nafi need to corral the boys and show some sort of urgency.

The Autobots have another chance to get a win under their belts. Last week they showed great effort and resiliency but it was to little to late. If they can get full attendance from all members this will be one heck of a game. One unfortunate piece of news is that we cannot figure out who the leader of this team is? Time to step up Raheel!! We need to see Dre/John/Dezz and Stan on the floor at the same time and just like those machines they can transform the season. Urgency Autobots…it’s time to assemble! Just like Transformers we see Dre/John come to the rescue and get th Bots a first team win! PREDICTION 66-63 AUTOBOTS

CBL30 Power Rankings

Power Rankings – Midpoint

1. Panthers 3-0: Not only are they undefeated and sit at first place with a 3-0 record but they look better every week as the season goes on. The best part about this team is that it is not reliant on one set player rather they get a contribution from each one of the guys that step on to the court. Their ball movement is superb and very unselfish they’re hunger, and tenacity shows on all the loose balls that they grab from missed shots. This team isn’t an easy out for their competition. Kudos to Captain Muzz and co-captain Maz

2. Certified Baller Boys 2-0: They are the real deal ladies and gentlemen they would take number one if not for the super play of the Panthers. These certified baller boys are 2-0 and they are number two in the power rankings because those two wins came against what we would call playoff opponents. They have a solid big man, great guard play and don’t like any IQ when it comes to having the ball in their hands. As of right now there aren’t any weaknesses if anything one Taha arrives this team may not lose a game.

3. Imaan 2-1: This was a tough spot, but it goes to team Imaan. They get the third spot because they have household names no no, they get the third spot because they faced competition and let’s not forget both those games were one by 20 points or more, we can let one hiccup change the fact that they have a stellar squad. But it does appear that this team has flaws, do they pass enough, does Mike trust his teammates, what identity do they have when their defense isn’t clicking? Captain Tariq is leading the team and so far, so good but there’s a problem when you’re getting texts for six men on the floor two out of the three games played. Expect this team to go up they won’t be number three for too long.

4. Uncle Drew 2-1: Uncle Drew take spot number four with a player like Alonzo Robinson and Saleh Ahmed you will always have a chance to win the game. There are some questions as to where Alonzo goes in the second half of games, we’ve now seen him average about 5 1/2 points in the second half of three games whereas in the first half he nearly has all his team’s points. Now that’s okay if your teammates are hitting shots but when your teammates are not, Alonzo needs to be consistent.  Otherwise it will be a lose lose situation. With Mehdi as the leagues rebounding machine this team has a chance to win every game it just comes down to making shots.

5. Bachem 1-2: And another tight spot we have Bachem led by the Cheema brothers. If this team can show up on time have all their players and run a specific system, they undoubtedly may have a top three team but without that they just find themselves sitting at the bottom of the barrel. They possibly have an MVP in Daniel Cheema but when is he going to put his head down and start to take games over rather than be the passive man that he is. We know he has a stellar three-point shot he’s got twitch fibers faster than Sonic and he can jump higher than farooq there was a dollar hanging from the ceiling. We’ve yet to see his brother step up and help but they do have a solid big man.

6. Afghan Ballers 1-2: Well, the Afghan ballers do have one thing going for them they were the first team in the league with uniforms that were in sync. Their first one now seems more like a fluke than anything, were they overhyped coming in or do they just not have the personnel to win games? With veteran and poised guys like Nafi & Haroun this team should be better in the standings than where they are. The real question is who in the world can get Shafi to see a therapist about his anger issues because he’s more concerned about that than he is the game. This team is underperforming both on and off the floor the real question is what’s going to wake them up?

7. Ogz3.0: At this point we might as well call this team Ohhhhggggggzzzzz because it is a never-ending whirlwind of complaints and finger pointing. Even with the talent they had to start the season with that which was nearly three of the top five guys in the league arguably and multiple roster changes and acceptance of restrictions they just can’t seem to figure it out. Is Kaptain Kamil so concerned with winning that is blinding his own judgment? With the likes of apron, Jamal & Brian it’s time to put up or shut up. I’d say now it’s time to have a team meeting and deliver the message that it’s either do or die at this point otherwise you’re not going to survive the CBL gauntlet.

8. Autobots: And sadly in last place we have the household name the Autobots who have yet to get a win and are sitting in the bottom of the standings at 0-3. They suffer some heartbreak losses they’ve suffered some close game losses they’ve also suffered losses without their Superstar. At the end of the day it takes more than one player to win games in CBL and they don’t show that desire or that will to win. They’ve got to figure out they want to come and play basketball, or they just want to run around for the sake of running around. Their new point guard Jonathan is a stellar player, but we need Andre to show up to right this ship otherwise good night.

CBLRetro 10/19/21 Games Previews and Predictions

8pm-Guardians(0-5) vs Tower(1-3):

Preview: The Guardians are ever so close to their first win. Could this be the week? Not sure because the Tower appears to have their guys coming together led by Captain Gouhar’s gamesmanship. The experts see the Gurdians pulling off their first win led by the dynamic duo of Abdullah and Aqib. Tower guys can do everything but score consistently Prediction: Guardians 48, Tower 42

9pm-Warriors(2-2) vs Clutch (1-3):

Preview: Both teams are struggling to find wins as of late. The Warriors have the best offender (Taco) defender (Razi) and re-bounder (Zak) in the league. But why can’t they put it together for a win? Reason is because they go in lapses and Captain Moody does not make the adjustments. Meanwile the Clutch are simply playing selfish ball. Captain Maaz. Please let Zobi run point and you will see wins. Rest of you play defense and pass. Interesting sidebar -Razi will face off against his family who he won a chip with. Prediction: Clutch 42, Warriors 40

10pm-Replacements (3-1) vs Bricklayers (3-1):

Preview: Two high caliber powerhouses in CBL. Combined these men know the CBL way. And Captain Zia has certainly stolen a chapter from Kamil’s chapter to ‘replace’ players. Simply put – Sajed is the energy the Replacements needed post covid. His offense and OFFENSIVE style helped the Replacements emerge as a potential contender. Meanwhile, the Bricklayers minus Hyder are a boring routine factory style team that knows how to get the job done. Expect this to be a close back and forth match-up with the Bricklayers winning in the final seconds. Prediction: Bricklayers 50, Replacements 49.

REMINDERONLY people that are vaccinated or can produce a negative test no greater than 24 hours are permitted to enter gym. NO EXCEPTIONS.

CBL30 10/18/21 Games Previews and Predictions

8pm-Panthers(2-0) vs Ogz 3.0(1-2):

PREVIEW: The Panthers look to continue their winning ways as they remain undefeated this season. They are led by a group of both talented and calm guys. Even though they lost their star player Andre to covid protocol issues. Their  budding star Josh Core has come in and picked up where Andre left off. Mazz continues to lead this team but they are going to run into a formidable opponent this week. With that being said don’t expect these guys to be the old sorry Panthers, sorry muzz. There’s still some questions about who they played in week one where the Autobots were short players and in week two where team Bachem showed up late. So it’s been fairly easy and smooth sailing for the Panthers this far  but they may be in for a reality check this week.
Here comes Kaptain Kamil and the newly assembled OGZ. In what was a shocker the CBL world found out that Kaptain Kamil dropped his superstar Terrance only to pickup his brother without the other knowing!!! Heck of a way to enter CBL huh? Well anyway this team is set and rolling. With Apron running the show and newly acquired Mr. Do-it-all Bryan along side him CBL beware. Both these players can get double doubles at will and with Kamil off the floor it’s way way easier. The only question they have to answer is when will the real Jamal show up because he’s been lackluster and he may be the key to their title hopes? Kamil Does it again! PREDICTION: 74-66 Leprechaun Kamil runs away with the pot gold and W.

9pm-Uncle Drew(1-1) vs Autobots(0-2):

PREVIEW: If there’s one thing Saleh Ahmed loves it’s winning and not having that last week hurt him and his ego. He also lost to his best friend Taha so you know he’s coming back for vengeance against the whole league. If there’s one thing that this team can fall back on it’s the fact that they have a superstar in Alonzo Robinson who’s currently averaging 23.5 points. If there’s one man who can will them to victory it would be him. Expect Uncle Drew to come out firing on all cylinders after the lackluster ending to last week’s game. The real question now is who is this team? They definitely don’t look like the Autobots that won the championship not too long ago. They have the same names on paper and on the back of their jerseys…. But we get the vibe that captain Fahad isn’t all too into it this season or do they miss their veteran Pg Darnell that much? For them this season could not have started any worse short players losing out at the buzzer and at one point just getting out hustled. We’ve seen Dre turn up offensively but is that too much? Dez hasn’t played a game all offseason as he proclaimed will that hurt this team? The Autobots have many questions that need to be answered hopefully they get back on track this week. We don’t think the Autobots will be able to keep up with Alonzo and the shooting of Uncle Drew. PREDICTION 66-59 UNCLE DREW

10pm- IMAAN(2-0) VS CBB(1-0):

We’ve got two teams coming in hot and on win streaks of their own. Imaan has been scorching the competition by a near average of 26 points per game led by pro Superstar Michael Liander and his stellar shooting. Let’s not forget the supporting cast shall we with the defensive intensity they bring all it takes is 6 minutes and the game becomes a blowout. We believe in talent in this league and if there’s one thing for sure these guys will come well prepared to win. There’s been a lot of chatter as to who’s going to be healthy and who’s not. We feel that this team has no issues other than health & that may be they’re one downfall. Can Mike rally the group and can he stay composed if doubled? Now let’s talk about those Certified Baller Boys. What a way to begin you’re season. You play against a friend (Saleh Ahmed) that claimed the win days before the contest started. You hold Zo to 5 second half points and win convincingly. When you look at this team on paper you don’t see many deficiencies. If they’re lacking something it may be style because those jerseys they’ve had on are just blinding. Captain Sy has his shot and the Alassari brothers add to that a handsome finesse playing big and a nerd who cant miss a shot if he tried and they might just be the best team in the league. Wake up commissioners is Sy the new Kamil? Sadly someone is taking their first loss tonight & we believe it’s going to be Imaan. Taha and Jalal will be just to much to handle. We expect 30pts from Taha tonight knowing Pg Zo will be playing before him. PREDICTION: 67-55 CBB

CBL Retro – 10/12/21 Games – Previews, Predictions, Scores, and Recaps

G1: Panthers vs Replacements, 8pm

Preview/Prediction: The Panthers are undefeated due to their poignant shooting and tough defense. Tonight’s match-up will be a little tough as Zia and his boys seem armed with talent of their own led by the feisty Sajid and big man Ali in the paint. However, the community sees Panthers still winning. PREDICTION: Panthers 57, Replacements 50

FINAL SCORE: Replacements 48, Panthers 35 [The Replacements now find themselves as one of the hottest teams in Retro with three straight wins. Reasons for success is the Sajid — who brings the scoring and defense each week].

G2: Bricklayers vs Warriors, 9pm

Preview/Prediction: Moody and his Warriors took a loss last week despite having a leading scorer in Taco and a leading rebounder in Zak. So what gives? Warriors defense is shoddy. They don’t guard the perimeter and thier zone is very loose. Meanwhile, the Bricklayers are battle tested and organized on both sides. Their core of Imran, Junaid, and Naveed will keep them competitive in each game. This one we see Bricklayers losing though. Too much Tuesday Taco. PREDICTION: Warriors 50, Bricklayers 44.

FINAL SCORE: Bricklayers 61, Warriors 50 [Moody’s team got outclassed by the balanced and poised Bricklayers. For the Warriors, Hammad made his debut and contributed nicely in a losing effort].

G3: Tigers vs. Guardians, 10pm

Preview/Prediction: The final game will be a full team in the Tigers vs. one player – Aqib. So this should be an easy win. Right? Wrong. Our experts have realized that the Tigers also have just one player. His name is Dev. Captain Adil – shut down Dev and you got a chance. PREDICTION: Tigers 47, Guardians 42.

FINAL SCORE: Tigers 54, Guardians 52 [The Guardians made a run in the second half and nearly pulled of a great upset over the Tigers. While Aqib and Abdullah represented offensively, it was difficult to contain Dev in the paint. Ultimately the Tigers have too much experience and command to lose.]

Preview, Predictions, Results, CBL30 Games – 10/12/21

All Games

G1: Panthers vs Bachem, 8pm

Preview/Prediction: Great friends off the court- these two will be the first matchup of week 3. The Panthers lack size and defense but there shooting led by Maaz is a force to reckon with. Meanwhile their opponents, Bachem has made the necessary changes each week to keep a steady hand. Captain Freddie built his team for the long run with the Cheema boys being the main architects on the offense and in transition. As far as the contest, we expect lots of scoring opportunities. Especially in transition and at the perimeter. Look out for Adnan. He can do a lot with his 4 eyes. [: PREDICTION: Bachem 66, Panthers 61

FINAL SCORE: Panthers 54, Bachem 42 [Bachem arrived late, Panthers capitalized and held on for another win. And oh yeah, they added Terrance].

G2: Afghan Ballers vs OGz3.0, 9pm

Preview/Prediction: Based on Afghan Ballers play last week, it is obvious they are NOT as good as advertised. They suffer from age, injuries, and have no shooting. Their opponents, the OGz3.0 have a good energetic team but lack size in the paint which means they will only score from the perimeter or mid-level or transition. Our experts see this as a game of contrast. One will shoot and score off steals and in transition, while the other will play defense and score in the paint. X factors: Can anyone match Nafi’s defense? Will Shafi wake out of his shooting coma? Will Kamil modify his roster yet again? PREDICTION: Afghan Ballers 57, OGz3.0 53

FINAL SCORE: OGz3.0 79, Afghan Ballers 63 [OGz3.0 Came to play led by Bryan and Abdel and cruised to an easy victory over an imbalanced Afghan Ballers Squad].

G3: Uncle Drew vs. CBB, 10pm

Preview/Prediction: Our final game, the Zia captained Uncle Drew will take on the Certified Ballers who will make their debut in CBL (Captain Sayem). The name may be new, but the cast of characters are not – you have Ali, Taha, Sayem, Taimur, and company.

The experts expect the offense from both teams to be lit. In fact, expect a barrage of 3s and likely NO defense. When the final whistle is blown, look for Zo to dissect CB’s defense and lead his team to victory with the aide of CBLs cookie monster (Saleh) PREDICTION: Uncle Drew 68, CBs 62.

FINAL SCORE: CBB 62, Uncle Drew 49 [Sayem and company came out firing led by newbie Taimur who without flair nailed 3s after 3s to give the CBB a successful debut].
